Sea Island Garden Club Projects

Club Projects:

Beaufort County Stewartia Grove (Clare I. Macdonald Wildflower Preserve).  This plot of land is owned by Sea Island Garden Club.  Members organize workdays to clear brush, moss and vines from the Stewartia shrubs and clean up the property. The fence that protects the rare native plants has been replaced using funds from the sale of Stewartia note cards created by Club members.

Coosa Elementary School.  We are partnering with the school as they participate in the Clemson School Gardening Program.  This includes funding four citrus trees and garden seedlings five times per year.  A member of the Club serves as liaison to keep club members up to date on the garden project and additional opportunities for involvement.

Beaufort County Open Land Trust.   We support this Trust openly and, to that end, an honorarium for each of the Club's speakers is donated to the Beaufort County Open Land Trust.

Pat Conroy Literary Center.  We help keep the center beautiful by maintaining colorful plantings in the pots at the entrance. We also plant flowers for the Center's main sign. We have assisted with an overall landscaping plan in partnership with the Center.

Projects with Beaufort Council of Garden Clubs:

Beaufort National Cemetary Garden Plot.  This project has our full membership's enthusiastic and long-term support.  Not only do our efforts honor our veterans, but the cemetery is a much-toured site by visitors to Beaufort and the Lowcountry. Because we have been assigned a high-profile area near the pavilion, we devote time and resources monthly to this important project.

Historic Beaufort Foundation.  To support Historic Beaufort Foundation's annual Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens, each year members of the Club create floral arrangements for assigned homes on the tour.

Wreaths Across America.  Club members donate funds for wreaths that are placed on graves at Beaufort National Cemetery during the Christmas season.

Mother's Day Bouquets for Bay View Manor Residents.  Our Club participates in turn with other Council clubs to create small floral tray arrangements for Bay View Manor nursing home residents for Mother's Day.  We also contribute monetarily to this project.
